SANDBERG Capt. John Halvard, affectionately known as "Pup-pup" by many of his numerous grandchildren, peacefully passed away on January 18 at Morgan Place Nursing Home. He was born to Johan and Hedvig Sandberg on February 12, 1917 in Fort William, Ontario. John joined the RCNR in Port Arthur in 1938 serving his country through World War II as a Chief Petty Officer. Following the war, John settled on the West Coast and began a long career with the Canadian Pacific Railway, retiring in 1979 after serving as Captain of the Princess of Vancouver for many years. Early in his career, while serving on the Princess Alice, he met Gladys, his wife of 54 years. John and Gladys lived overlooking the Fraser River in North Delta until 2004. John was preceded in death by his brothers Harold and Henry, his sisters Heldy and Helga, his step-daughter Joan and his step-son Richard. John is survived by his loving wife, Gladys, his brother Eric (Dee), seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. John also leaves behind many dear friends. John was truly a caring and wonderful gentleman. His kindness touched all who were blessed enough to know him. John will be greatly missed. Services details to be announced. Captain Ed Winter passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday July 21, 2023 in Nanaimo, BC.
Dad was born in Belgium on February 6, 1931. He left home at the age of 15 to begin a lifelong career of working at sea. Starting out as a cook's helper, he travelled all over the world and upon seeing Vancouver for the first time in 1953, decided it was here that he wanted to live. He immigrated to Canada in 1955 and continued to work in the industry on the West Coast and all over the world until his retirement from Seaspan International in 1996. In 2017, he moved to Nanaimo to be closer to his family.
Survived by his daughter Christine (Kent), son Mike (Donna), grandchildren James and Emily, great grandson Linden, extended granddaughter Hayley and family, niece Martha, nephew Edward and family in Belgium.
A private service will be held at a later date to scatter Dad's ashes at Mariner's Rest in Howe Sound, BC.
We would like to thank the staff at Woodgrove Manor for the wonderful care of Dad in these last months.

WILLISCROFT CAPTAIN ROBERT (BOB) DOUGLAS May 15, 1921 January 18, 2008 It is with deep sadness we announce that Bob passed away in his 87th year on January 18, 2008 in the Royal Columbian Hospital, with his wife, Edie, by his side. Bob was born May 15, 1921 in Prince Rupert. His passing is mourned by his beloved wife of 57 ? years, Edie, daughters Daphne, Shelagh Temple (Vance); sons Roderick (Barb), Bryon, Douglas and Norman; 6 grandchildren, Melissa (Chris), Richard, Nicole, Evan, Robyn, and Gregory, 5 sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was raised in Prince Rupert where his affinity with the water led to his life long career as a Master Mariner in the towboat industry. The family moved to Vancouver in 1932. He was an assistant cub leader and an avid soccer player, helping to form the Edmonds' Soccer Club when his own sons began to play. Bob was a proud member of the Canadian Merchant Service Guild. He served twice as Worshipful Master of Union Solomon Lodge #9 A.F. & A.M of New Westminster and was also a P.D.D.G.M. He served as W.P. of Royal City Chapter #7 O.E.S. nine times. He was P.G. Patron of the G.C. of B.C. & Y. in 1984-85 and a G.G.C.C.M. from 2000-2003. He was also a member of the Gizeh Shrine Greeters Club. Bob was an avid fisherman and holidays were usually spent in Halfmoon Bay. He was a kind, thoughtful and caring person. His hearty laugh and cheerful smile always brought a ray of light into the darkest day. Bob was first and foremost a family man who everyone relied on. He will be truly missed. A celebration of life will be held January 29, 2008 at 2:00 pm at the Gizeh Shrine Headquarters at 3550 Wayburn Drive, Burnaby. A family service will be held January 29 at 10:00 am at St Alban's Church, 7717 19th Avenue, Burnaby. McMASTER _ Bruce Alexander Bruce Alexander McMaster of Penticton, BC passed away peacefully on July 3rd, 2007 at the age of 86 years. He is survived by his loving wife Gene; four children Louise Charbonneau of Victoria, BC, Margery (Lee) Harwood of Oliver, BC, Susan Roper of Terrace, BC and Barbara (Al) Finlayson of Penticton, BC; four grandchildren Kama Charbonneau, Kenneth Harwood, Michael Cameron, Scott Finlayson; one great-granddaughter Stephanie; brother Jim (Berna) McMaster. Bruce was sadly predeceased by grandchildren Corey, Heather and Jennifer. Bruce spent his early years on the boats learning to be a Master Seaman. He retired as a Pacific Coast Marine Pilot in 1982. He moved to Ruth Lake to enjoy the Cariboo. In 2001 he settled in Penticton, BC. A Celebration of Bruce's life will be held on July 7th, 2007 at 1400 hours at "Mom's" house. LUCARZ, Michael Scott
August 15, 1971 - May 24, 2023

Mike passed away peacefully with his loving partner in crime, Christine and brother-in-law Rick by his side.

With his usual tenacity Mike fought cancer for almost 4 years, bravely and with grace, strength and determination.

Mike was born in Regina and moved to BC at a young age. His tugboat career started at an early age when someone didn't show up for work. (You know who you are!) Mike worked for various tugboat companies in the harbour and on the coast for 20 years, his last being Seaspan. Fourteen years ago, with much trepidation, Mike made the move to the office of Seafarers' International Union of Canada, eventually becoming a port agent. He loved it! His passion was working with both companies and his union brothers and sisters. As in life, Mike was gratified when he succeeded, what he felt strongly was a win/win for both sides.

Mike got into metal detecting, which he thought his buddies were nuts to do until he found his first old coin, then he was hooked. Mike also loved playing golf and could crush the ball, but let's not mention his putting. He also enjoyed playing on-line bingo with his buddies. Mike's passion though was fishing, especially in the Cariboo.

Mike leaves behind his partner Christine, mom Dee, father Jerry and sister Michelle, also numerous aunts, uncles, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews and friends.

Per Mike's request there is no service but a reminder to be kind to each other. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Shore Hospice or Lions Gate Hospital Foundation.

Thank you to Mike's angels in the Oncology department for taking care of him. He always came home with a smile.

A special heartfelt thank you to the entire palliative team at Lions Gate Hospital for their compassion and care as Mike went through his journey.

Mike, may your shot always be a hole in one
and your rod have a "fish on".
