WELCOME to the new ANCIENT MARINERS of BC website. It has been designed by D'Arcy McKee to be easily read on all devices, cell phones and tablets included.
Relevant pages in the old website are preserved as a legacy and is a valuable read, as it serves to maintain the heart, soul and humour of the original band of characters, from the beginnings of the club, back in the late 1990's. Kudos to the MacPhersons (Ian/Mona) for designing, building and maintaining it until 2005. The Crossing of the Bar remains a tribute to all who have passed that have been a part of working in the BC marine industry.
The ANCIENT MARINERS of BC is a social club for both retired and working marine transportation personnel, and keeping with the tenants of the founder of the Port Kells Club, Captain Harry Thiessen, "anyone involved in or who has grown up in the marine business, 19 years and up." Dues are paid at monthly meetings, to maintain the website, and on several occasions there has been a lucky recipient of a scholarship, for educational pursuits, to the Marine Institute in N.Vancouver.
This new software, which is replacing an outdated and cumbersome admin process, is infinitely better to administrate, build upon, and will represent the club for decades to come. Although there will be additional features and embellishments added to the pages, as time goes on, the format will remain the same.
Thank you for your patience while we took the time needed to build this site. D'Arcy has volunteered a tremendous amount of hours between day and night shifts in the marine industry and raising a young family, in this creation. We hope you like it. Keep Well. Best of Luck. Keep in Touch.
Sincerely, Rick McKee President
